Here at TrippNT, we dedicate 15 minutes each day to personally clean our building. Every member of our team participates. Paul Akers’ 2 Second Lean inspired this practice and has become a cornerstone of our daily routine.
Our team of around 30 people maintains a 30,000-square-foot facility.
We offer quarterly tours at TrippNT (join us!) and recently one of our participants (also in manufacturing) proclaimed “I couldn’t find any dust!” after touring our facility.
We have 6 cleaning teams:
-Shop Equipment
-Shop Floors
-Cafe (Yes, we have a cafe and offer complimentary meals)
-Bathrooms
-Office
-Trash/Outdoor
The cleaning practice is just another opportunity for continuous improvement and team-building.
We periodically switch tasks within the teams as well as rotate team members between teams. So yes, everyone will at some point get the opportunity to clean the toilets.
Here are the things we love about cleaning our building ourselves:
-We do not pay a third party for this service
-It’s a chance to be on a team with someone you may not normally work with closely
-We keep applying lean principles to our cleaning processes - improving quality and speed
-We’ve found that cleaning increases our personal investment in our environment
Often you will see a team member stop their work and clean for a minute. It gives the mind a little break from one’s work and a quick dopamine drip of satisfaction when the cleaning is achieved. We’d love to hear your questions about this and anything else about TrippNT’s unique culture. Send your questions here.
